Our Technology

High Tenacity Cellulosic Fibres from Microbial Cellulose

Nanollose is an ASX-listed Australian biomaterials company built around a single platform technology: microbial cellulose grown by fermentation. From that one platform we develop fibres, nonwovens, and agricultural materials, led by our flagship textile fibre, Nullarbor™.

Why Fibre Matters

EVERY FIBRE COMES WITH A COST

Fibres are the hair-like structures that we spin into yarn and transform into fabrics. But whether natural, synthetic, or regenerated, each type has its trade-offs:
Natural fibres like cotton and wool are renewable, but demand vast amounts of land, water, and pesticides.
Regenerated cellulosic fibres such as viscose, lyocell, and modal, are soft and versatile, but most are derived from wood pulp, with over 300 million trees felled annually to produce them.
Synthetic polymers like polyester and nylon are durable and cheap, but they’re fossil-based, non-biodegradable, and a leading source of microplastic pollution.
Unlike traditional man-made cellulosics, Nullarbor cellulose requires no trees, no arable land, and no chemical dissolution. The cellulose is produced by microorganisms through a sustainable fermentation process.

How Our Technology Works

BIOBASED INNOVATION

Nanollose uses microorganisms to convert agricultural by-products into microbial cellulose, the same structural material found in plants, produced without soil, trees or arable land. The culture is grown and harvested in 10 to 15 days, then spun into lyocell fibre on the same equipment the industry already uses.

A Better Starting Point for Lyocell

FOREST-FRIENDLY. SUSTAINABLE. TRACEABLE.

Conventional lyocell depends on tree-derived cellulose from timber and bamboo, sources that take 12 to 18 years to regenerate and whose supply chains can be difficult to trace. Nullarbor’s cellulose is grown from agricultural by-products in under three weeks. The entire process—from feedstock to fibre—is highly traceable, offering assurance of sustainability and compliance with industry regulations, including deforestation standards.

Fibre that Performs Naturally

STRENGTH, SOFTNESS & VERSATILITY

Nullarbor™ delivers the best of both worlds in terms of strength and softness. It blends effortlessly with both natural and synthetic fibres and can be spun into yarns or nonwovens using existing industry machinery.
